The American Legion, the nation's oldest and largest veterans' organization, was founded in Paris on March 15-17th, 1919, by a group of WWI veterans (members of the American Expeditionary Forces), including Theodore Roosevelt Jr. The organization was then chartered by an act of Congress in September of that year.
Today, the Legion has over 2.4 million members and 14,000 posts worldwide.
