Snapshots from Military History: Operation Homecoming, 1973

On February 12, 1973, at the start of Operation Homecoming, the first group of American POWs were flown back to the U.S. from North Vietnam.


Over the next 2 months, until April 4, 1973, 591 American POWs in total were returned home from imprisonment in Vietnam during the operation.


They included 325 Air Force personnel, 77 Army, 138 Navy, 26 Marines, and 25 civilians.
